Beacon Hill has partnered with a technology company in downtown Chicago in hiring a contract Senior Human Resources Generalist to start immediately. This is a 6 month contract role to support the business as they expand in Canada.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a primary HR partner to business leaders and employees across assigned client groups
- Advise leaders on employee relations matters including performance management, disciplinary actions, terminations, accommodations, and workplace conflicts
- Lead and conduct employee relations investigations, including complaints related to harassment, discrimination, retaliation, and policy violations
- Manage end-to-end investigation processes, including intake, interviews, documentation, findings, and recommendations
- Ensure investigations are conducted in a fair, consistent, confidential, and legally compliant manner
- Interpret and apply Canadian employment legislation, including provincial employment standards, human rights codes, occupational health and safety laws, and privacy regulations
- Provide guidance on risk mitigation and best practices related to employee relations and employment law
- Draft investigation summaries, findings reports, and recommendations for leadership and legal review
- Partner with Legal and external counsel as needed on complex employee relations matters
- Support organizational change initiatives from an employee relations and compliance perspective
- Advise on workplace accommodations, leaves of absence, and return-to-work processes
- Ensure HR policies, procedures, and practices align with Canadian employment law and company standards
- Contribute to the development and delivery of manager training related to employee relations, investigations, and compliance
- Analyze employee relations trends and recommend proactive solutions to improve workplace culture and reduce risk
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation in HR systems and case management tools
- Act as a trusted advisor while balancing employee advocacy with business needs
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive HR experience with a strong focus on employee relations
- Hands-on experience conducting workplace investigations in Canada
- Strong working knowledge of Canadian employment law, including federal and provincial legislation
- Experience supporting multiple provinces preferred
- Exceptional interviewing, documentation, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to influence and advise leaders at all levels of the organization
- Experience partnering with Legal on employment-related matters
- CHRP or CHRL designation preferred
