A mission‑driven safety‑net hospital in Chicago is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead the organization through an important period of rebuilding and growth. This is a highly visible, hands‑on role for an experienced HR leader-or a high‑potential HR Manager ready to step up-who can rebuild trust, strengthen compliance, and partner closely with executive leadership in a complex healthcare environment.
The Role:
- Serve as the senior HR leader and trusted partner to the CEO, CFO/COO, leadership team, and Board
- Rebuild and lead the HR function, including recruiting, employee relations, compliance, and HR operations
- Address immediate staffing, process, and compliance gaps while re‑establishing credibility and trust in HR
- Partner with clinical and non‑clinical leaders on workforce planning and retention
- Lead and develop the HR team with clear structure, accountability, and best practices
- Oversee recruiting processes, compensation controls, and approvals
- Present to executive leadership and participate in board and community initiatives
- Operate as a visible, roll‑up‑your‑sleeves leader in a fast‑paced hospital setting
You:
- Prior HR leadership experience within healthcare (hospital experience strongly preferred)
- Experience managing people and handling employee relations in a regulated environment
- Confident executive presence with the ability to navigate direct, high‑stakes conversations
- Comfortable working fully on‑site and engaging closely with staff and leadership
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Bilingual Spanish skills a plus
