Our client is seeking a highly experienced, strategic Administrative Manager to oversee legal support operations within a premier law firm. This is a newly created leadership role designed to elevate and modernize the firm’s administrative and practice support functions. The position will serve as a key partner to the COO, leading teams across legal support services while helping shape the future structure, performance, and development of the firm’s administrative organization. The ideal candidate is an accomplished people leader with deep professional services experience, strong operational instincts, and the ability to drive change while maintaining a collaborative, service-focused culture.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the firm’s practice support functions, including legal secretaries, paralegals, document reviewers, and related support teams
- Serve as a strategic partner to the COO and firm leadership on organizational planning, workforce development, and operational initiatives
- Manage and develop managers and support staff, establishing performance expectations, KPIs, and career development plans
- Evaluate current support structures and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, utilization, and service delivery
- Partner with practice group leadership to understand evolving support needs and allocate resources effectively
- Drive operational excellence through process improvement, workflow redesign, and technology adoption
- Oversee vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and third-party service providers
- Collaborate closely with Finance, HR, IT, Marketing, and other internal departments
- Support budgeting, profitability analysis, and strategic planning initiatives
- Champion a high-touch, white-glove service culture across all support functions
- Lead change management initiatives while maintaining strong relationships with long-tenured employees
- Mentor and develop future leaders across the administrative organization
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of professional services, legal operations, practice management, or support services experience
- 8+ years of leadership and people management experience
- Experience managing large administrative or legal support teams
- Strong operational, organizational, and strategic planning capabilities
- Proven ability to lead change and modernize support functions
- Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills
- Experience partnering with executive leadership and driving firmwide initiatives
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills
- Ability to balance diplomacy, authority, and collaboration in a complex organization
- Experience with legal industry technology, document management systems, eDiscovery platforms, or similar tools preferred
- Bachelor’s degree required
