Position Summary
An industry-leading manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Analyst with a focus on U.S. state and local indirect tax to join its growing tax department. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in sales and use tax, property tax, and other indirect taxes, along with strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
This individual will work closely with the Tax Manager and other members of the finance team to ensure accurate tax compliance, streamline processes, and support various corporate initiatives. The Senior Tax Analyst will also have exposure to leadership on ad-hoc projects and special analyses.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with third-party compliance providers to ensure timely and accurate filing of indirect tax returns.
Review state and local indirect tax filings, including sales and use tax, property tax, and related returns.
Conduct research on state and local tax laws to support compliance and planning efforts.
Prepare and record journal entries and month-end reconciliations related to tax accounts.
Manage and review use tax accruals to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Partner with internal teams and external advisors to support state and local tax audits and respond to inquiries.
Monitor legislative updates and assess their potential impact on the company’s tax position.
Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls within the tax function.
Provide guidance on nexus determinations, taxability assessments, and related business considerations.
Maintain and help improve tax technology tools such as Avalara or Vertex.
Contribute to departmental process improvement and automation initiatives.
Support the tax team on other projects, audits, and compliance needs as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced certification preferred.
2+ years of experience in U.S. state and local indirect tax compliance, ideally within a corporate tax department or public accounting firm.
Strong knowledge of U.S. state and local indirect tax regulations and reporting requirements.
Working understanding of general accounting principles.
Proficiency with Excel and tax software.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, including the ability to explain complex concepts to non-tax professionals.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
