Key Job Responsibilities
- Full-Cycle Accounting Management: Handle all financial transactions including A/R, A/P, payroll, grants, investments, fixed assets, journal entries, and monthly close procedures.
- Grant and Fund Accounting: Posting contributions, reconciling ledgers, generating statements, and responding to donor and chapter inquiries.
- Financial Reporting and Reconciliation: Prepare monthly financial statements, grant reports, and quarterly activity summaries; perform bank reconciliations and record investment portfolio activity.
- Audit and Tax Compliance: Prepare for annual audits and ensure tax compliance by maintaining accurate records, internal controls, and documentation for all financial activities.
- Budget Tracking and Forecasting: Evaluate financial performance against budgets, prepare variance analyses, and assist with forecasting and projections; present findings to the Executive Director regularly.
- Policy and Classification Oversight: Maintain and improve internal controls and the integrity of profit/loss classifications in the general ledger, including setup of new classes and inactivation of obsolete ones.
Key Qualifications
- Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required; CPA preferred (experience may substitute for CPA).
- Nonprofit & Fund Accounting Experience: 5+ in accounting (nonprofit or for-profit), with 2-5 years in a nonprofit membership organization strongly preferred.
- GAAP Knowledge: Strong understanding and practical application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Technical Proficiency: Fluency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office (especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Communication & Leadership: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface with the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.
- Self-Motivated & Detail-Oriented: Ability to work independently with high initiative, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
