SENIOR ACCOUNTANT: DETAILS
Title: Senior Accountant
Location: Nashville TN
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Rate: $35-43/hour
Type: Contract to Hire
Hours: Monday-Friday | 7am-3:30pm CT
REQUIREMENTS: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
* 5+ years of accounting or progressively financial experience.
* Experience with AP, AR, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. Someone that has the willingness to step into different accounting departments and help out.
* Strong working knowledge of accounting principles and financial controls.
* Proficiency with financial systems and advanced spreadsheet/reporting tools.
RESPONSIBILITIES: SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
* Serve as a senior financial and administrative professional for the Finance team.
* This position provides expert-level support in budgeting, financial management, grants administration, and operational coordination, ensuring effective stewardship of institutional, state, federal, and externally funded resources.
* Financial Management & Budget Support
* Develop, manage, and monitor operating, restricted, and grant-related budgets for the unit.
* Analyze financial data, identify trends and variances, and prepare reports for leadership.
* Support forecasting, financial planning, and budget development processes.
* Review and process financial transactions, transfers, and adjustments in accordance with policy.
* Provide post-award financial administration for sponsored projects.
* Review expenditures for allowability, allocability, and compliance with sponsor and university requirements.
* Assist faculty and principal investigators with budget monitoring and financial reporting.
* Coordinate with Sponsored Programs and Grant Accounting on reconciliations, closeouts, and compliance matters.
* Ensure compliance with university policies, procedures, and applicable regulations (including 2 CFR Part 200, as applicable).
* Maintain accurate financial records and reconcile accounts regularly.
* Assist with internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries.
* Identify potential financial or compliance issues and elevate concerns as appropriate.
* Serve as a primary point of contact for financial, procurement, payroll, and personnel-related questions within the unit.
* Review and support personnel actions, salary distributions, and effort allocations.
* Assist with procurement activities, vendor payments, and contract coordination.
* Support operational planning related to space, equipment, and academic initiatives.
* Advisory & Collaborative Role
* Provide guidance and technical expertise to faculty, staff, and administrators on financial and administrative matters.
* Act as a liaison between the unit and central offices (Finance, HR, Procurement, Sponsored Programs).
* Participate in university committees, working groups, or special projects as assigned.
* Contribute to process improvements and best practices across financial operations.
