Portfolio Analyst – Valuation & Reporting
Boston, MA | Fully Onsite (5 Days Per Week)
Compensation: Base salary up to $125,000 plus annual bonus
A leading private investment firm is seeking a Portfolio Analyst – Valuation & Reporting to join its Finance team. This individual will play a key role in portfolio monitoring, valuation analysis, fund reporting, investor reporting, and data-driven process improvement initiatives. The position offers broad exposure to investment performance, portfolio company analytics, fund operations, and strategic reporting across a diverse private investment portfolio.
The ideal candidate will combine strong financial and analytical skills with a desire to improve processes through technology, automation, and modern data tools.
Responsibilities
Portfolio Monitoring & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and maintain key portfolio company operating and financial metrics.
- Support the development and maintenance of reporting databases, dashboards, and analytical tools.
- Prepare recurring portfolio reporting for internal stakeholders, senior leadership, and investors.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and data quality.
Valuation & Fund Analytics
- Support the quarterly valuation process across a portfolio of private investments.
- Prepare valuation analyses, supporting schedules, and presentation materials.
- Partner with investment professionals to gather quantitative and qualitative inputs.
- Assist with fund-level reporting, portfolio company reporting, and ad hoc analyses.
- Support regulatory, investor, and management reporting requirements.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Develop and maintain reporting tools and analytical solutions that improve efficiency and data accuracy.
- Utilize modern data, automation, and AI tools to streamline workflows and reduce manual processes.
- Collaborate with finance and investment teams on reporting enhancements and technology initiatives.
Strategic Analysis
- Prepare analyses supporting fundraising, portfolio reviews, and management presentations.
- Complete ad hoc reporting and project work for senior stakeholders.
- Assist with special projects related to portfolio performance measurement and fund analytics.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
- Approximately 3+ years of experience within private equity, investment management, valuation advisory, investment banking, public accounting, transaction services, or a related financial environment.
- Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, valuation methodologies, and investment performance reporting.
- Advanced Excel skills including financial modeling, dashboard creation, and data analysis.
- Experience working with reporting platforms, databases, business intelligence tools, or portfolio management systems is preferred.
- Exposure to private equity fund structures, portfolio company reporting, valuation processes, or alternative investments is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated interest in leveraging technology, automation, and AI tools to improve business processes.
- Experience with Power BI, Anaplan, Investran, Chronograph, Python, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
