Assistant Controller – Rockville, MD
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Rockville, MD in their search for an Assistant Controller to join their team. This is a full-time, on-site position responsible for supporting the Controller in managing the company’s accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and maintaining internal controls. The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting skills, construction industry experience, and a collaborative, detail-oriented approach.
Key Responsibilities:

Prepare month-end journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, and variance reports

Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts, ensuring timely and accurate postings

Prepare and reconcile monthly cash entries, bank reconciliations, and other balance sheet accounts

Reconcile all subsidiary ledgers and supporting schedules to the trial balance

Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and management reports, identifying variances from budget and providing explanations

Maintain fixed asset tracking and ensure proper recording of depreciation
-
Record inventory adjustments resulting from periodic physical inventory counts

Assist with oversight of accounts receivable and payroll functions to ensure accuracy and completeness

Prepare and enter monthly journal entries related to the company’s benefit plans

Assist in compiling audit support documentation and coordinate with external auditors as needed

Review sales and use tax compliance and ensure timely and accurate filings

Contribute to the development and review of accounting policies and procedures to improve efficiency and compliance

Analyze Job Cost reports and prepare custom financial analyses as requested by management

Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Construction industry experience

Spectrum/Viewpoint software experience

Strong understanding of GAAP, financial processes, and internal controls

Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general accounting software
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
