Payroll Accountant – Washington, DC
Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Washington, DC in their search for a Payroll Accountant to join their accounting team. This fully onsite role is responsible for supporting payroll processing, payroll-related accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations while assisting with financial reporting and audit support.
Key Responsibilities

Process payroll transactions and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts within the general ledger.

Review payroll reports, analyze discrepancies, and resolve payroll-related issues.

Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings.

Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and benefits.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements.

Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll documentation, reconciliations, and responding to auditor inquiries.

Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure accurate employee data, compensation changes, and benefit deductions.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

Experience in payroll accounting, payroll processing, or a similar accounting role.

Knowledge of payroll regulations, payroll accounting practices, and related reporting requirements.

Experience supporting audit processes and preparing payroll-related documentation.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll or accounting systems.

Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
