Payroll Accountant – Washington, DC

Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Washington, DC in their search for a Payroll Accountant to join their accounting team. This fully onsite role is responsible for supporting payroll processing, payroll-related accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with payroll regulations while assisting with financial reporting and audit support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process payroll transactions and ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries and reconcile payroll accounts within the general ledger.

  • Review payroll reports, analyze discrepancies, and resolve payroll-related issues.

  • Maintain accurate payroll records, including employee earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings.

  • Assist with month-end and year-end close activities related to payroll and benefits.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Support internal and external audits by preparing payroll documentation, reconciliations, and responding to auditor inquiries.

  • Collaborate with HR and finance teams to ensure accurate employee data, compensation changes, and benefit deductions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience in payroll accounting, payroll processing, or a similar accounting role.

  • Knowledge of payroll regulations, payroll accounting practices, and related reporting requirements.

  • Experience supporting audit processes and preparing payroll-related documentation.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll or accounting systems.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
