Senior Accountant – Hyattsville, MD
Overview
Beacon Hill Financial has partnered with a client in Hyattsville, MD in their search for a Senior Accountant to join their team. This fully onsite role is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, supporting financial reporting, and assisting with payroll processing. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and brings both strong technical accounting expertise and leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Lead key aspects of the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
- Perform account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and variance analysis.
- Process payroll and ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely submission of payroll-related activities.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and support related reporting and tax filings.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
- Support audit processes by preparing schedules and responding to auditor requests.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff and support process improvements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support accounting operations and business initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Experience with payroll processing and related reconciliations required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/payroll systems preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
