Billing Manager – Washington, DC

Job Summary

Beacon Hill has partnered with a respected law firm in the Washington, DC area seeking a Billing Manager. This position will oversee the firm’s billing operations, collections efforts, trust accounting, and select accounting functions. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong legal billing experience, particularly in electronic billing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the full billing cycle, including prebills, invoice generation, edits, write-offs, appeals, and e-billing submissions.
  • Ensure invoices are accurate, timely, and compliant with client billing guidelines.
  • Partner with attorneys to resolve billing issues and ensure timely time entry submissions.
  • Monitor accounts receivable and lead collections efforts to improve cash flow.
  • Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts.
  • Support accounting operations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting.
  • Train attorneys and staff on billing procedures and client requirements.
  • Assist with process improvements, system enhancements, and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience with legal billing, e-billing platforms, trust accounting, and collections.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and law firm accounting practices.
  • Intermediate/Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the billing function.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing electronic billing and moderate invoice volume.
  • Prior experience collaborating directly with attorneys and legal staff.
