About the Organization
Our client is a well-established nonprofit organization in the San Fernando Valley. As the organization grows, they are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all financial operations, ensure compliance, and support strategic decision-making.
Position Summary
The Controller will manage the organization’s accounting and finance functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls. This role requires a degreed accounting professional with prior accounting/finance experience and nonprofit expertise. The ideal candidate is highly organized, proactive, and capable of guiding the financial strategy of a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities

Oversee all aspects of accounting and finance, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.

Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

Manage budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support operational planning.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as nonprofit reporting requirements (Form 990, grants, audits).

Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard organizational assets.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and regulatory agencies as needed.

Mentor and manage finance staff to enhance performance and professional growth.

Provide financial guidance and reporting to the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and senior management to support strategic decisions.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred.

5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, with at least 2 years in a management or supervisory role.

Nonprofit experience required (fund accounting, grants management, restricted funds).

Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and reporting requirements.

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Nonprofit, Blackbaud, NetSuite, or similar).

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for reporting and analysis.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
