C++ / Qt Application Developer
Location: Madison, WI (100% Onsite)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced C++ / Qt Application Developer to support the modernization, maintenance, and feature development of a long‑standing internal application. This role is fully onsite in Madison, WI, and requires strong Qt framework expertise, comfort working within an established legacy codebase, and the ability to deliver high‑quality enhancements in a constrained technical environment.
The ideal candidate is solutions‑oriented, collaborative, and pragmatic-someone who can work effectively with older architecture while helping move the product forward.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, enhance, and maintain application features for an established internal system built with C++ and the Qt framework.
- Upgrade the existing Qt version to modern 64‑bit compatibility and contribute to long‑term modernization goals.
- Develop and maintain custom Qt components (not limited to Qt Creator‑based work).
- Implement new functionality requested by internal stakeholders, including marketing and product teams.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software issues within a complex, 15‑year‑old codebase; apply creative solutions while respecting established constraints.
- Contribute to ongoing efforts to add unit tests, modernize components, and improve code maintainability.
- Work collaboratively with the onsite engineering team to ensure development continuity and support year‑end delivery commitments.
- Understand networking fundamentals, including how devices communicate and how signals/data are exchanged (heavy network‑coding experience not required).
- Participate in onsite team discussions, technical reviews, and hardware‑adjacent workflows.
Required Qualifications
- Strong proficiency in C++ and the Qt framework, including deep knowledge of Qt models and custom UI development.
- Experience maintaining and evolving large, legacy, or highly‑established codebases.
- Understanding of networking basics, including device communication, data flow, and common protocol concepts (TCP/UDP familiarity helpful).
- Strong debugging, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work fully onsite, 5 days per week.
- Comfortable working within constraints rather than re‑architecting legacy systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with:
- Lua
- Python
- Windows and macOS application development
- Wireshark or similar protocol analysis tools
- Continuous Integration / CI pipelines
- Networking/lighting protocols such as ACN or RDM
- JIRA, Git, GitLab, and requirements management tools like JAMA
