We’re partnering with a well-established Bay Area general contractor with a strong project backlog and consistent growth to hire an Accounting Manager. This is a key role supporting active projects across the region and overseeing a team of 4-6 across project accounting, AP, and billing.
This is not a back-office reporting role. You’ll be tied closely to the jobs, the PMs, and the numbers that drive margin.
Requirements:
- Own month-end close with a focus on accurate job cost and clean, supportable WIP
- Manage and review WIP schedules across multiple active projects (percent complete, earned revenue, over/under billings)
- Oversee progress billing (AIA, GMP, T&M), making sure billings reflect actual job performance and contract terms
- Partner directly with PMs and Ops on cost-to-complete, margin fade/gain, and job health
- Monitor committed costs, subcontracts, and change orders across the portfolio
- Keep a close eye on cash. Support billing, collections, and overall AR health
- Lead and develop a team of 4-6 (project accountants, AP, AR/billing)
- Help tighten processes around billing cycles, job cost reporting, and close timelines
Qualifications:
- 6+ years of construction accounting experience within a GC or similar environment
- Strong ownership of job cost and WIP. You’ve run it, not just reviewed it
- Deep experience with progress billing (AIA, GMP contracts, T&M)
- Comfortable working directly with PMs and pushing back when needed
- Prior experience managing a team
- Experience with Deltek (Vision or Vantagepoint) strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of revenue recognition tied to project performance
Why this role:
- Established GC with a steady pipeline of complex, high-visibility projects
- Enough scale to be interesting, without the layers of a massive contractor
- Direct exposure to operations and leadership
- Opportunity to step in and improve how things are done
