About the Role
We are seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to provide high-level support to partner-level attorneys in a Chicago office. This is a hybrid role, with in-office presence required on Tuesdays and Thursdays, along with alternating Fridays shared with another litigation assistant. The role also includes a rotating early dismissal every other Friday (4:00 PM, otherwise 2:30 PM). The position operates on a 37.5-hour work week with flexibility around start and end times, and offers a salary range of $65K-$80K depending on experience.
This opportunity is ideal for a candidate with at least 3+ years of litigation experience who is highly organized and comfortable managing multiple matters in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, edit, proofread, and format legal documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and correspondence
- Electronically file documents in Illinois state courts, appellate courts, and federal courts, ensuring compliance with applicable rules and deadlines
- Maintain litigation calendars and track court deadlines, including scheduling orders and briefing schedules
- Assist with discovery, document production, and preparation of pleading and discovery shells
- Coordinate depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and meetings with attorneys and clients
- Assist with trial preparation, including assembling trial and exhibit binders
- Maintain and organize electronic case and client files
- Review and finalize attorney time entries
- Provide administrative support, including calendar management, scheduling, and routine correspondence
- Communicate professionally with attorneys, clients, court personnel, and vendors
- Manage multiple assignments and meet court-driven deadlines
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of litigation legal assistant experience in a law firm environment
- Strong working knowledge of Illinois state and federal court filing rules and procedures
- Experience with electronic filing systems across multiple jurisdictions
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and legal document management systems
- Excellent grammar, proofreading skills, and attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
