A well-established litigation firm is seeking a Workers’ Compensation Defense Attorney to join its growing practice. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with 0-5 years of experience who is interested in developing hands-on litigation skills, managing files independently, and working closely with insurance clients and policyholders in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload from initial assignment through file closure.
- Review files and conduct legal analysis of claims, defenses, and case strategy.
- Represent insurance companies and their policyholders in workers’ compensation and related defense matters.
- Provide legal counsel and representation in proceedings, arbitrations, trials, and appeals.
- Communicate regularly with clients and provide timely case status updates.
- Conduct legal research and develop effective defense strategies.
- Attend court appearances, arbitration hearings, and other case-related proceedings.
- Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses.
- Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents.
- Assist with expert witness retention, trial preparation, and trial attendance.
- Meet an annual billable hour requirement of 1800 hours.
- Travel as needed for hearings, depositions, and other case-related matters.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the Illinois State Bar.
- 0-5 years of litigation, workers’ compensation, insurance defense, or related experience.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently.
- Interest in building practical litigation experience in a defense-focused practice.
Compensation
The anticipated salary range for this position starts at $70,000 depending on experience and qualifications.
