Beacon Hill Legal is partnering with a leading Michigan-based firm seeking a Land Use & Zoning Associate to join its Real Estate Practice Group. This position can be based in Grand Rapids, Detroit, or Kalamazoo and offers the opportunity to work closely with developers, municipalities, and business clients on meaningful projects that shape local communities.
Highlights:
- Work directly with planning commissions, zoning boards, and city councils to secure approvals, variances, and entitlements
- Advise clients on zoning, land use, development, and municipal law, including rezonings, special use permits, and site plan reviews
- Draft and negotiate development-related agreements (purchase agreements, easements, development contracts, etc.)
- Collaborate with planners, engineers, and consultants on complex projects across the state
- Competitive compensation, hybrid flexibility, and strong mentorship within a collegial, well-established team
Qualifications:
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active license (or eligibility) to practice in Michigan
- 2+ years of experience in land use, zoning, municipal, or real estate law preferred
- Excellent research, writing, and advocacy skills; ability to present effectively before public bodies
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously
- Experience or interest in environmental law and/or development work is a plus
