Beacon Hill’s client, a digital payments platform, is seeking a Product Counsel to support their team.
- Location: U.S.-based remote
- Start: ASAP
- Anticipated Duration: 1 year from start date
- Hours: Full-time
- Pay: $100-$115/hour, depending on experience
Experience: 5+ years with the following qualifications
- A Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one state bar required
- Significant experience dealing with consumer protection issues
- Expertise in financial services, consumer protection, and business laws (KYC/CIP, Regulation Z, Regulation E, UDAAP, UDAP)
- Fluency with consumer and business privacy regimes
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks as applicable to technology products
- Excellent drafting skills
- Beneficial to have experience in fraud, payments issues (e.g., NACHA and Visa rules), and complaints
Soft Skills:
- Excellent active listening and practical communication skills
- Fluency translating legal advice into actionable guidance for creative products and collaborators
- Strong writing skills (including drafting clear, actionable legal advice, concise legal terms)
- Ability to quickly adapt and reorient in an evolving regulatory and business environment
- Sound, practical business judgment, and creativity solving problems
- Familiarity and comfort with technology, including use of Slack, Google Suite, and AI tools
- Familiarity with disputes issues and advising on the legal and regulatory aspects of disputes, payments, and fraud issues in the technology space
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal review and analysis on account restrictions, closures, and general account status, specifically considering consumer protection and fraud/scam issues. There will be a focus on KYC/KYB/CIP requirements and fraud and security obligations
- Provide guidance to product, customer support, sales, account management, and other teams on consumer protection and business issues such as disputes, complaints, account takeovers/identity theft, and various consumer privacy regimes
- Advise on the construction and management of AI products, including AI partner integrations, chatbots, and agentic AI tools
- Develop trusted relationships with business partners, stay informed on key product developments, and provide legal advice related to consumer protection issues, particularly related to disputes
- Draft and/or review policies, processes, and procedures related to consumer protection issues, particularly as it relates to disputes
- Draft and review customer communications, particularly as it relates to dispute issues
- Work closely with other support teams (tax, compliance, accounting, outside counsel) to provide seamless support to business partners
- Actively cultivate creative ideas and insights into how legal frameworks can support new product developments and customer experiences
