Beacon Hill’s client, a digital payments platform, is seeking a Product Counsel to support their team.
- Location: U.S.-based remote
- Start: ASAP
- Duration: 1 year from start date
- Hours: Full-time (USA time zones)
- Pay: $100-$115/hour, depending on experience
Experience: 5+ years with the following qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active membership in at least one state bar
- Significant experience dealing with consumer protection issues
- Expertise in financial services consumer protection and business laws, including KYC/KYB/CIP, Regulation Z, Regulation E, UDAAP, and UDAP
- Experience advising on disputes, fraud, account restrictions, complaints, and related consumer protection matters
- Familiarity with consumer privacy laws and regulations, including GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, and similar U.S. state privacy laws
- Familiarity with AI governance frameworks and the evolving AI regulatory landscape
- Excellent drafting skills
- Experience advising online marketplaces, ecommerce platforms, and/or marketing and rewards programs is preferred

Experience with payments issues (e.g., NACHA, Visa rules, money transmission laws) and complaints is a plus

Responsibilities:

Provide legal review and analysis on account restrictions, closures, and account status issues, with a focus on consumer protection, fraud/scam matters, and KYC/KYB/CIP requirements

Advise the Neighborhoods team and other product teams on product development and launches

Partner with product managers, engineers, designers, and cross-functional stakeholders to provide legal guidance

Work closely with regulatory, compliance, tax, commercial counsel, accounting, and outside counsel teams

Advise on disputes, complaints, account takeovers/identity theft, consumer privacy matters, and related business issues

Advise on AI products, including AI integrations, chatbots, and agentic AI tools

Develop trusted relationships with business partners and provide practical legal guidance on product developments

Draft terms of service, transactional disclosures, legal memos, product policies, and procedural playbooks

Draft and review policies, processes, and procedures related to disputes, account restrictions, and account access/onboarding

Draft and review customer communications

Support innovative product development by identifying practical legal solutions and opportunities
