Temporary California Litigation Paralegal

Location: San Francisco, CA, hybrid
Pay Rate: $40 to $60 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: 37.5 hours per week
Standard Hours: Approximately 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with some flexibility
Assignment Length: Approximately seven months
Start Date: ASAP

Position Overview

Beacon Hill Legal is seeking an experienced California Litigation Paralegal for a temporary assignment with a public-interest environmental and land-use law firm in San Francisco.

Cite-checking will be a major focus of this position. The successful candidate must be able to read and understand the arguments presented in legal briefs, independently verify that the cited cases, statutes, and administrative records support those arguments, and proactively flag anything unclear or potentially incorrect.

This position is best suited for a highly detail-oriented paralegal who is knowledgeable about California courts and procedures, comfortable working independently, and prepared to hit the ground running.

Preferred Qualifications

Direct environmental or CEQA experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong California litigation and cite-checking experience from another practice area are encouraged to apply.

Hybrid Schedule

The current expectation is approximately one to two onsite days per week, with flexibility regarding which days. A formal two-day onsite requirement is still being discussed and may be implemented in the future. Candidates must be able to commute to the San Francisco office and be comfortable with this potential requirement.

Occasional extended hours may be required to support active litigation or meet filing deadlines.

Potential Conversion

This is expected to be a temporary assignment, although there is a limited possibility of conversion. If converted, the anticipated salary would be approximately $115,000 to $120,000.
