Overnight Counselor – Veteran Support Program
Schedule: 3 nights/week, 10-hour shifts (Fri/Sat/Sun: 9:00p – 7:00a)
Job Summary
Join an organization serving homeless Veterans who may not yet be committed to full abstinence or recovery. Provide trauma-informed, harm-reduction services overnight, ensuring safety and support for participants. Must remain awake for the entire shift.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver substance use counseling and crisis intervention during overnight hours.
- Respond to emergencies and assist participants as issues arise.
- Communicate overnight updates to daytime staff for continuity of care.
- Maintain positive relationships with staff, VA liaison, and community partners.
- Ensure compliance with program guidelines and professional standards.
- Participate in supervision and provide coverage for other low-threshold programs as needed.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years’ experience in case management, substance abuse, mental health, or related fields.
- Strong crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and remain awake overnight.
Additional Information
- Must work collaboratively with VA staff and community agencies.
- Ability to gather and report data accurately and maintain participant records.
- Reliability and commitment to scheduled shifts are essential.
