Overnight Counselor
Location: Boston-area | Onsite

Role Overview
This role supports a 25-bed, 24/7 low-threshold residential program serving Veterans experiencing homelessness. The Overnight Counselor provides trauma-informed, harm-reduction-based support to residents who may not yet be committed to abstinence or recovery. This is an awake overnight position requiring crisis response, participant support, and coordination with day staff and partner agencies.
Requirements
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3+ years of experience working with substance use, mental health, or case management in a diverse population
- Demonstrated experience using trauma-informed, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, and person-centered approaches
- Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, communication, and boundary-setting skills
Job Duties
- Provide awake overnight coverage within a low-threshold residential recovery setting
- Respond to crises and emergencies, including participant safety and behavioral incidents
- Offer brief counseling, emotional support, and substance use-related interventions as needed
- Support participants with overnight needs and emerging concerns
- Communicate shift updates and concerns clearly to daytime staff
- Maintain accurate documentation and participant records in accordance with program standards
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure continuity of care

- Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM (4 days per week, 9-hour shifts)
- Position Type: Temporary (May 1 – June 22) covering a leave
