Beacon Hill Legal’s client, a non-profit organization located in Lower, Manhattan, is seeking a Legal Research Assistant for a contract role expected to last at least 1 year. The candidate hired must be able to work remotely part-time and reside in the NYC metropolitan area. Pay rate is dependent on experience, but starts at $25/hr.
Responsibilities
Monitor Pending Cases
- Regularly check pending case dockets in the Airtable case tracker, rolling content meeting notes, and SCR (State Court Report) database.
- Ensure each pending case is reviewed on a set cadence (e.g., monthly), with more frequent checks for fast-moving cases.
- For cases with significant developments, collect relevant documents, identify key dates, and summarize updates for the team.
- Maintain a consolidated list of pending cases to be monitored.
Brief Collection & Database Support
- Conduct docket searches for new or ad hoc cases to be added to the database.
- Download briefs, apply standardized naming conventions, and prepare documents for upload.
- Coordinate with team members to ensure briefs are accurately cataloged in the database.
Oral Argument Tracking
- Review designated state court websites monthly to identify upcoming oral arguments.
- Provide team members with case names, docket numbers, summaries, and relevant links/documents.
- Check dockets of pending cases in the Airtable case tracker tab, rolling content meeting notes, and marked pending in the SCR database, to identify cases in need of updates.
- Develop and maintain a consolidated list of pending cases to be monitored
- Collect briefing for ad hoc and regular database entries
- Search court dockets to find entries for cases we are adding to the database on an ad hoc basis
