Position Summary
The Senior Property Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a portfolio of housing properties, with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and reporting. This role partners closely with property management, program staff, and asset management to ensure financial integrity across affordable and supportive housing programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly financial statements for assigned properties, including variance and budget analysis
- Perform general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
- Monitor property budgets and maintain schedules for subsidies, grants, and restricted/unrestricted funds
- Prepare financial reports and ensure compliance with HUD, LIHTC, and other affordable housing requirements
- Support audits, cost certifications, tax filings, and maintain strong internal controls
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Several years of property accounting experience, preferably within affordable or supportive housing
- Strong knowledge of HUD, LIHTC, and government-funded housing programs
- Experience with property management/accounting software
- Solid understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and nonprofit accounting practices
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple properties and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
