Job Title: Senior Software Engineer – Qt & C++
Location: Onsite – Madison, WI
Schedule: Full-time, 5 days/week onsite
Start Date: ASAP
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineers to join a collaborative engineering team focused on modernizing and enhancing a legacy system. This role is ideal for individuals with deep experience in Qt development and a solid understanding of networking fundamentals, who are also flexible, open-minded, and ready to work within the constraints of an older codebase.
This is not an opportunity for entry-level developers or those who have only used Qt Creator. We are looking for engineers who understand the Qt framework at its core-how the models work and how to write custom code in C++ using Qt, without relying on GUI-driven tools.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Collaborate with the lead developer and to upgrade the Qt version to 64-bit.
- Develop and implement enhancements and new features based on ongoing marketing and product team requests.
- Modernize and clean up the legacy codebase while respecting existing architectural decisions.
- Write and maintain unit tests to improve code reliability and maintainability.
- Work closely with hardware and product teams in a highly collaborative environment.
Technical Environment
- Languages/Frameworks: C++, Qt (custom development, not Qt Creator)
- Platforms: Windows, MacOS
- Networking: Understanding of TCP, UDP, multicasting, and device communication protocols
- Tools: JIRA, JAMA (for requirements/use cases), Git, GitLab
- CI/CD: Experience with writing and maintaining build pipelines is a plus
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience with:
- Lua or Python scripting
- Multi-threaded application development
- Wireshark or similar packet sniffers
- Lighting protocols (e.g., ACN, RDM)
- Cross-platform software development
- CI/CD tooling and scripting
