The Cost Accountant is responsible for analyzing, tracking, and controlling costs associated with production, inventory, and operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective cost management. This role involves preparing cost reports, performing variance analysis, and supporting budgeting and forecasting efforts. The Cost Accountant collaborates with manufacturing, procurement, and finance teams to provide insights that drive efficiency and profitability.
Key Responsibilities:

Collect, analyze, and summarize cost data for products, materials, and labor.

Perform standard cost and variance analysis (price, usage, labor, overhead).

Maintain and reconcile inventory valuations and ensure accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.

Prepare and review monthly cost reports and margin analyses to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Support budgeting and forecasting by providing detailed cost information and recommendations.

Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.

Partner with operations and supply chain teams to develop and maintain cost models and process improvements.

Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.

Participate in audits by providing cost documentation and analysis as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5+ years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing accounting, or financial analysis.

Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory control, and variance analysis.

Proficient in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage, or NetSuite) and Microsoft Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs).

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
