Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical authority for system safety across multiple high-complexity defense and aerospace programs.
- Lead hazard analyses, risk assessments, and define safety requirements in compliance with DoD, MIL-STD-882, ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-178C, and DO-254.
- Develop, oversee, and approve safety documentation (SSPPs, SARs, FHAs, HTLs).
- Lead System Safety Working Groups (SSWGs) and represent the organization with government approval authorities.
- Provide technical leadership in safety certification activities with FAA, EASA, and DoD agencies.
- Mentor senior and early-career engineers; set organizational safety engineering standards and best practices.
- Spearhead innovation and continuous improvement in safety engineering processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- 10+ years of system safety engineering with leadership on major defense programs.
- Expert knowledge of DO-178C (software safety) and DO-254 (hardware safety).
- Due to the nature of work, U.S. citizenship is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (Active Secret or higher preferred).
- Proven success leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and complex stakeholder environments.
- Strong skills in communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
