Job Summary
The Lead Payroll Analyst is responsible for overseeing complex payroll data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing. This role serves as a subject matter expert for payroll systems, audits, and controls, partnering closely with Payroll, HR, Finance, and external vendors. The Lead Payroll Analyst also supports process improvements, system implementations, and mentoring of junior payroll staff.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and review complex payroll reconciliations, including payroll registers to general ledger, bank accounts, taxes, benefits, garnishments, and accruals.
Analyze payroll results and trends; investigate and resolve discrepancies and variances.
Lead payroll data audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Serve as a payroll subject matter expert for systems (e.g., ADP).
Prepare and review payroll reports for management, Finance, and auditors.
Partner with HR and Benefits to validate employee data, earnings, deductions, and benefit enrollments.
Assist with payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing; validate data conversions and parallel runs.
Mentor and provide guidance to Payroll Analysts and Specialists.
Identify and implement process improvements and automation to increase accuracy and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of progressive payroll experience, including payroll analysis and reconciliations.
Strong knowledge of payroll accounting, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, macros, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, Power Query preferred).
Experience with enterprise payroll systems (ADP).
Proven ability to manage complex payroll data and meet strict deadlines.
