Location: Hybrid Philadelphia, PA
Leads a team of engineers while remaining hands‑on in the design, development, and evolution of core platform services. This role combines people management with deep technical ownership, focusing on C#, SQL‑based systems, and scalable backend architecture that supports critical business applications.
This leader is responsible for building and mentoring a high‑performing team, setting engineering standards, and driving technical execution across complex systems. The role partners closely with product, architecture, and operations to ensure solutions are reliable, maintainable, and aligned to business outcomes.
* Manage and develop a team of backend engineers, including hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development
* Serve as a hands‑on technical leader, contributing to production code, design reviews, and architectural decisions
* Own backend and platform architecture with a focus on C#/.NET services and SQL‑based data systems
* Ensure engineering best practices are followed, including code quality, testing, security, and operational readiness
* Lead design and implementation of scalable, maintainable backend services and APIs
* Guide data design decisions, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning in SQL Server
* Balance delivery of new features with ongoing system maintenance and modernization
* Act as an escalation point for complex technical challenges and production issues
* Collaborate with product, DevOps, and cross‑functional partners to plan roadmaps, delivery timelines, and technical strategy
* Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, tooling, and team effectiveness
Required Skills
* 7+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend focus
* 3+ years of experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
* Strong hands‑on experience with C#/.NET in production environments
* Advanced SQL and SQL Server expertise
* Experience designing and supporting scalable backend systems and APIs
* Proven ability to balance people leadership with technical contribution
* Strong understanding of system reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence
