The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations and month-end close activities by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting. This role requires a strong understanding of general accounting principles, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and GAAP compliance.
- Perform monthly reconciliations for balance sheet accounts including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements and management reports.
- Analyze financial data and provide variance explanations as requested.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit activities as needed.
- Review, code, and process vendor invoices and payments.
- Assist with AR invoicing, collections, and customer account reconciliations.
- Ensure proper documentation and approval of transactions.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Provide financial data to tax preparers and auditors.
- Ensure adherence to company accounting policies and procedures.
Systems & Documentation
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting schedules.
- Work with accounting systems and Excel-based reports.
- Recommend process improvements where appropriate.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (Bachelor’s preferred).
- 2+ years of general accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas and reconciliations).
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
- Exposure to ERP or accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Great Plains, SAP).
- Prior experience supporting audits or tax preparation.
