Position Summary
The Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing manufacturing or operational costs, maintaining accurate product and inventory costing, and supporting month-end close and financial reporting. This role partners closely with operations and supply chain teams to improve cost visibility, analyze variances, and support data-driven decision making.
Cost Accounting & Analysis
- Maintain and update standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
- Analyze production and inventory cost variances and identify root causes
- Perform inventory valuation, cycle count reconciliation, and reserve analysis
- Support annual standard cost roll and budgeting processes
- Evaluate cost impacts of operational changes, new materials, or processes
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and post inventory and cost-related journal entries
- Reconcile cost of goods sold (COGS) and inventory-related balance sheet accounts
- Support month-end and year-end close for manufacturing or operations functions
- Assist with management reporting, forecasts, and variance commentary
Cross-Functional & Audit Support
- Partner with operations, production, engineering, and procurement teams
- Support internal and external audits with cost documentation and analysis
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3-5+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or operations environment
- Strong understanding of standard costing, inventory accounting, and variance analysis
- ERP system experience required (SAP preferred); strong Excel skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally and meet tight month-end deadlines
Preferred Skills
- Experience with multi-site or plant accounting
- Exposure to continuous improvement or cost reduction initiatives
- Power BI, OneStream, or advanced reporting tools a plus
