Position Summary
The Sr. Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and filing federal, state, and local tax returns while ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations. This role supports tax planning initiatives, conducts research on tax issues, and assists with audits and financial reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform tax research and ensure compliance with current tax laws and regulations
- Communicate with clients to gather information and resolve tax-related issues
- Prepare and post journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Perform bank and account reconciliations
- Maintain and organize client chart of accounts
- Assist clients with basic bookkeeping and accounting needs
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and client tax savings
- Prepare and review federal and state income tax returns for individuals and trusts accurately and timely.
- Gather and analyze financial data, including income, deductions, and distributions related to estates and trusts.
- Collaborate with attorneys, financial advisors, and clients to obtain necessary documentation and clarify tax issues.
- Ensure compliance with current tax laws and regulations, staying updated on relevant changes.
- Maintain organized records of all filings and correspondence.
- Contribute to the overall efficiency and accuracy of the tax team.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 4+ years of experience in public accounting, with a focus on tax
- Strong knowledge of tax compliance for individuals and small businesses
- Proficiency in software, QuickBooks, MS Office, tax related software systems
- Experience with accounting functions such as reconciliations and general ledger maintenance
