Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Controller to oversee accounting operations, government contract compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls for a growing organization supporting aerospace and defense programs. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, this role will be responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, maintaining compliance with government regulations, and driving process improvements across the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations
- Manage daily accounting functions including AP/AR, payroll, general ledger, cash management, and month-end/year-end close.
- Maintain accurate financial records, reconciliations, and audit-ready documentation.
- Develop and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
Government Contract Compliance
- Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, DCAA, and government contract accounting requirements.
- Manage indirect rates, labor distribution, cost classifications, and project accounting structures.
- Support government audits and compliance reviews.
Project & Cost Accounting
- Oversee percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.
- Analyze project profitability, revenue recognition, billings, and cost performance.
- Partner with project managers on forecasting, cost-to-complete estimates, and financial reporting.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly financial statements and project performance reports.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and executive decision-making through accurate financial data.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and contract-specific revenue recognition requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Active CPA required.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Direct government contract accounting experience required.
- Strong knowledge of FAR, DFARS, DCAA, indirect rates, and cost accounting.
- Experience with financial reporting, month-end close, internal controls, and project accounting.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
