Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to lead all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance operations within a manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for maximizing equipment reliability, plant uptime, and operational efficiency through effective leadership of maintenance teams, continuous improvement initiatives, capital projects, preventive maintenance programs, and equipment upgrades.

The Maintenance Manager will oversee maintenance personnel, coordinate shutdowns and projects, support production goals, and drive a culture focused on safety, quality, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coordinate, and prioritize all mechanical and electrical maintenance activities, including:
    • Preventive and predictive maintenance programs
    • Equipment repairs and rebuilds
    • Plant shutdowns and turnarounds
    • Capital projects and equipment installations
    • Facility upgrades, expansions, and remodels
    • Continuous improvement initiatives
  • Manage and develop a maintenance team consisting of millwrights, electricians, technicians, equipment mechanics, rolling stock mechanics, and support personnel.
  • Monitor plant operations and equipment performance to maximize uptime, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and within budget while minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Oversee equipment and tooling maintenance strategies to ensure optimal performance and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and implement processes that support environmental stewardship.
  • Standardize electrical and mechanical components across operations and maintain cross-reference documentation to streamline maintenance activities.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for maintenance employees to enhance technical skills and safety performance.
  • Participate in the selection, design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
  • Provide recommendations regarding the purchase of equipment, tools, parts, and maintenance supplies.
  • Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and vendors on equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
  • Manage construction and project activities, including:
    • Vendor selection and oversight
    • Procurement of materials
    • Scheduling and coordination of work
    • Contractor management
    • Safety compliance
    • Permit compliance
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to improve operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with maintenance recordkeeping requirements and departmental budgets.
  • Support and implement PLC-based control systems, including converting relay logic systems to programmable logic control platforms when appropriate.
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem resolution for electrical, automation, and computerized systems throughout the facility.
  • Foster strong communication and collaboration across all levels of the organization.
  • Champion safety, quality, environmental responsibility, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of five years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience managing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience leading employee engagement and involvement initiatives.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience coaching, mentoring, and developing teams.
  • Commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, or a related technical field.
  • Seven or more years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous supervisory or maintenance leadership experience.
  • Experience with industrial automation, PLC programming, and controls troubleshooting.
  • Background leading maintenance teams in a high-volume manufacturing operation.
