Payroll Lead is responsible for accurate, timely payroll processing and compliance for a multi‑state workforce. This role partners closely with HR and Accounting, supports audits and year‑end activities, and serves as a subject‑matter resource for payroll operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly and/or bi‑weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
- Review and validate timekeeping, pay rates, deductions, garnishments, and adjustments
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
- Reconcile payroll to the general ledger and support month‑end close
- Resolve employee payroll questions and research discrepancies
- Support quarter‑end and year‑end activities, including W‑2s and audits
- Identify process improvements and support payroll system enhancements
Qualifications
- 3-7+ years of payroll experience, preferably in logistics, distribution, or manufacturing
- Hands‑on experience with multi‑state payroll and payroll tax compliance
- Payroll system experience (ADP, UKG, Workday, or similar)
- Strong Excel skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a deadline‑driven environment with a high level of confidentiality
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting high‑volume or multi‑location payrolls
- Exposure to time & attendance systems
- Prior partnership with Accounting or Finance teams
