Network Engineer
6 month contract to hire
Onsite in Lansing, MI
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Network Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise network systems. This hands-on role involves working both in the field and onsite to implement and support network hardware, software, and connectivity solutions that align with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems
- Apply firmware/software patches and hardware updates to resolve network issues and ensure system integrity
- Participate in planning and designing network architecture, including topology, hardware/software integration, and signal protocols
- Monitor performance, tune systems, and recommend optimizations for reliability and efficiency
- Perform capacity planning, risk assessments, and contingency planning
- Maintain technical documentation such as network diagrams, configuration standards, and backup procedures
- Support configuration and patching for VDI environments and Microsoft technologies (e.g., Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange)
- Create and maintain job aids and technical documentation to support knowledge transfer and onboarding
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal training efforts
- Troubleshoot network connectivity, performance, and routing issues including traffic filtering and scripting
- Evaluate and integrate new tools and services into the network management ecosystem
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field – or equivalent experience
Hands-on experience with:
- VDI patching/upgrades and paired image management
- VMware environment patching and maintenance
- Microsoft SQL Server (installations, upgrades, clustering)
- Active Directory in test/dev/prod environments
- Microsoft Exchange (on-premises)
- Windows Server deployment and management
- Azure Government Cloud (preferred)
- Strong understanding of network protocols, systems tuning, and fault resolution
- Valid Michigan driver’s license (required for local travel)
Preferred Certifications:
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Server+
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect
- Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) – Windows Server
