We’re seeking a dynamic Director of Public Policy and Advocacy to lead strategic policy initiatives that drive meaningful change for individuals and families impacted by homelessness, housing insecurity, and domestic violence. This position plays a critical role in shaping advocacy priorities, engaging with local, state, and federal officials, and advancing legislative and community awareness efforts.
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and mission-driven leader who thrives at the intersection of policy, communications, and social impact-someone who can translate complex policy issues into actionable strategies that create lasting change.
Key Responsibilities
- 
Develop and execute a comprehensive advocacy strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. 
- 
Monitor and analyze policy issues, legislation, funding priorities, and government actions impacting housing, homelessness, and social services. 
- 
Create policy briefs and position statements for executive leadership, board members, and internal teams. 
- 
Build and maintain relationships with elected officials, government agencies, and community coalitions to advance advocacy objectives. 
- 
Represent the organization in public forums, community meetings, and policy roundtables. 
- 
Lead internal education initiatives to empower staff, board members, and program participants to engage in advocacy efforts. 
- 
Coordinate meetings and outreach with policymakers and other key stakeholders. 
- 
Manage the organization’s participation in advocacy campaigns, coalitions, and community events. 
- 
Oversee the tracking of legislation, lobbying activities, and policy engagement metrics. 
- 
Supervise policy and advocacy team members and manage the department’s annual budget. 
- 
Collaborate with communications and development teams to integrate advocacy into public engagement and fundraising efforts. 
Qualifications
- 
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in public policy, political science, or a related field preferred. 
- 
Minimum 5-7 years of experience in government relations, policy development, or community advocacy. 
- 
Proven experience working with city, county, state, and federal elected officials and their staff. 
- 
Strong understanding of public policy issues related to housing, homelessness, and social services. 
- 
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize and present complex policy matters. 
- 
High initiative, strong judgment, and collaborative mindset. 
- 
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to manage data tracking systems. 
- 
Willingness to occasionally work evenings or weekends as advocacy activities require. 
Work Environment
- 
Hybrid schedule with a blend of office, field, and community-based activities. 
- 
Regular interaction with diverse stakeholders across multiple sectors. 
- 
May require local travel to meetings and events. 
- 
Occasional lifting (up to 35 lbs.) and exposure to varied environmental conditions during field work.
