Project Accountant

We are partnering with a well‑established construction organization seeking a Project Accountant to support the financial management of active construction projects. This role works closely with project managers and operations teams to ensure accurate job cost tracking, billing, and financial reporting throughout the life of each project.

Key Responsibilities
* Maintain detailed job cost accounting for assigned construction projects, including labor, materials, subcontractor, and overhead costs
* Prepare and process project billings, including AIA billing, percentage‑of‑completion, progress billing, retainage, and change orders
* Track and reconcile work‑in‑progress (WIP), over/under billings, and job cost variance reports
* Partner with project managers to review budgets, forecasts, cost‑to‑complete, and margin analysis
* Review subcontractor invoices, track commitments, and assist with lien waivers and compliance documentation
* Assist with monthly close by recording project‑related journal entries and reconciling project accounts
* Ensure adherence to contract terms, company policies, and construction accounting best practices
* Support audits and ad hoc financial reporting as needed

Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
* 3-6+ years of accounting experience within a construction or project‑based environment
* Strong understanding of construction job cost accounting, WIP reporting, and project billing
* Proficiency in Excel; experience with construction or ERP systems is a plus
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Effective communicator who is comfortable working cross‑functionally with operations teams
