A well-established public sector /infrastructure-related organization is seeking a Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This is a great opportunity for someone with strong accounting support experience who enjoys working in a structured environment and contributing to a mission-driven organization.

This role will support a variety of day-to-day accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial recordkeeping, reconciliations, reporting, and clerical accounting support. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable handling multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and deadlines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clerical accounting and bookkeeping duties related to financial and statistical recordkeeping
  • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Review and process invoices, purchase orders, contracts, and supporting documentation
  • Verify documentation for accuracy and compliance with internal procedures
  • Code and post entries into accounting ledgers and financial systems
  • Prepare and maintain financial reports, logs, and in-house tracking documents
  • Investigate and help resolve minor billing or vendor discrepancies
  • Maintain organized accounting files, contracts, work orders, and archived records
  • Assist with preparing materials and reports for internal meetings and reporting needs
  • Support auditors, consultants, management, and internal stakeholders with requested financial information
  • Assist with bank-related transactions and other finance support functions as needed
  • Provide general administrative and clerical support including filing, data entry, and correspondence

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting support experience
  • Experience maintaining financial records, reconciliations, and accounting documentation
  • Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting procedures
  • Strong data entry and administrative accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High level of professionalism and attention to detail

Preferred Background

  • Experience in a government, municipal, public agency, utility, engineering, construction, or infrastructure-related environment is a plus
  • Coursework or training in accounting, bookkeeping, or office administration preferred
  • Familiarity with internal controls and financial documentation processes is highly desirable
