Quality Control Chemist

Food Manufacturing | Cleveland Area

Position Overview

A well-established food manufacturer in the Cleveland area is seeking a Quality Control Chemist to support laboratory testing and quality initiatives. This role is responsible for performing qualitative and quantitative analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure quality, consistency, and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working independently in a laboratory environment while collaborating cross-functionally to support quality, regulatory, and operational needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and non-routine chemical and instrumental testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products using wet chemistry and analytical techniques aligned with industry standards (FCC, USP, AOAC, etc.)
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and validate laboratory instruments and testing methods
  • Support quality assurance, regulatory, and divisional projects through data analysis and technical input
  • Accurately document test results, methods, specifications, and related laboratory records
  • Assist internal stakeholders with analytical testing requests and interpretation of results
  • Maintain an organized, compliant, and efficient laboratory workspace

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biology, or a related scientific discipline
  • Hands-on experience with quality control testing in a laboratory setting (food, chemical, or regulated manufacturing preferred)
  • Strong understanding of analytical testing principles and troubleshooting methodologies
  • Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and ISO-based quality systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and data tracking
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple analyses, and meet deadlines
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Sensory or odor evaluation experience is a plus

Training & Compliance

  • Chemical hygiene and laboratory safety training required
  • Fire extinguisher training as applicable

Work Environment

  • On-site role in a standard laboratory environment within a food manufacturing facility
