Our client is looking to add a controls engineer to their team. This role focuses on designing, building, wiring, and programming industrial PLC control systems used in research and development environments. The engineer will work autonomously on multiple projects at once, handling everything from hardware scoping and wiring design to PLC and SCADA programming. The position involves integrating instrumentation such as temperature, pressure, and pH sensors along with pumps, valves, heaters, and other process equipment to support automated data collection and process control. The engineer will also modify and rebuild existing systems, standardize control hardware and software, partner closely with scientists and engineers to understand process requirements, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reliability, and automation across systems.
Required Skills:
- 5+ years experience in controls engineering in a manufacturing environment
- Professional experience with programming PLCs from scratch
- Understanding of SCADA and how different systems work together
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- End-to-end project ownership experience
- Experience in control system design and hardware scoping
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to learn and proactively improve systems
- Strong verbal and written communication experience
Desired Skills:
- Working experience with Ignition and SCADA
- Software and system integration experience
- Experience in the agricultural industry
