Overview
A mission-driven organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the CFO and Controller in achieving strategic financial goals and ensuring strong accounting operations. This role supports Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, provides oversight and guidance to accounting staff, and manages key general accounting activities, close processes, and audit preparation. The ideal candidate brings strong nonprofit accounting experience, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines in a multi-system environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and oversee day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable activities, ensuring timely vendor payments and accurate processing of deposits, credit cards, and expense reimbursements
- Perform and review full-cycle AP and AR functions, including account coding and posting accuracy within the general ledger and related systems
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations for month-end and year-end close; maintain supporting schedules and process assigned journal entries
- Support revenue recognition, reconciliations, financial reporting, and closing procedures to meet organizational deadlines
- Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, funding requirements, and applicable state and federal regulations
- Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures; recommend process improvements as needed
- Manage system access, data integrity, and integrations between financial and operational platforms (e.g., accounting, expense, billing, and CRM systems)
- Prepare and consolidate audit schedules and financial documentation for independent auditors
- Support efficient accounting workflows and perform additional duties as assigned by leadership
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 5+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience; nonprofit experience strongly preferred
- Experience supporting or overseeing AP/AR functions
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting practices
- Experience working with accounting systems and AP automation platforms (e.g., SAGE, Bill.com, or similar)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to meet close and reporting deadlines
