Datacenter Technician I

Location: Sparks, NV
Contract Duration: Ongoing contract
Schedule: Day Shift | Monday-Friday | 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Position Overview

We are seeking a Data Center Technician I to support structured cabling and network infrastructure projects within a large-scale data center environment. This role is hands-on and ideal for candidates with foundational experience in low-voltage cabling, copper and fiber installations, and data center operations. The technician will work under the direction of senior technical staff and operations leadership while adhering to safety, quality, and performance standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform installation and decommissioning of network and cabling infrastructure within data center environments
  • Support structured cabling projects for enterprise and cloud infrastructure
  • Install, connect, and decommission network equipment
  • Install ladder racking and seismic bracing above and below raised floors
  • Pull, route, dress, and label all types of low-voltage copper and fiber cabling
  • Perform copper and fiber termination, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Conduct fusion splicing (single fiber and ribbon) and dress/furcate fiber trunks
  • Operate and program test equipment such as DSX 5000 and OTDR testers
  • Download, save, verify, and submit test results using LinkWare / LinkWare Live
  • Create and apply mass labels per port maps; differentiate live vs. decommissioned cables
  • Perform service swaps on live networking devices with attention to uptime and safety
  • Read, interpret, and mark up blueprints, floor plans, and design documentation
  • Maintain clean, organized workspaces and accurate project documentation
  • Provide structured status updates and feedback to project stakeholders
  • Collaborate with technicians, leads, and operations staff to resolve project obstacles
  • Follow all safety, production, quality standards, and industry best practices
  • Utilize asset tracking systems and databases (e.g., FIM systems, scanners)

Required Qualifications

  • OSHA 10 certification (required)
  • Some experience working in data center environments
  • Proficiency with basic telecommunications and low-voltage hand tools
  • Understanding of copper and fiber cabling systems and testing methodologies
  • Ability to perform field terminations, labeling, and cable dressing
  • Familiarity with industry wiring standards, wiring schemes, and testing procedures
  • Ability to read and understand floor plans, blueprints, and design documents

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to Operations Manager
  • Receives daily direction from Technician II, Lead Technicians, Senior and Advanced Senior Technicians
