Title: Manager, Project Development
Location: Cary, NC (onsite presence required)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Project Development Manager to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software projects from early business requirements through post‑implementation support. This role partners closely with Product Managers and technical teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned to business objectives.
This position requires a strong mix of technical leadership, project management, and hands-on development experience, with a small portion of time spent coding to stay aligned with the technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning (30%)
Gather requirements and assist with developing business cases and high-level estimates.
Create and manage project plans, budgets, risks, issues, action items, and status reports.
Support project portfolio and release planning.
Follow established internal project methodologies.
Project Execution & Management (50%)
Manage resources and budget forecasts across multiple projects without impacting quality or timelines.
Lead technical teams through design, development, integration, and support efforts.
Promote strong, cross-functional (“T-shaped”) team collaboration.
Identify, track, escalate, and mitigate project risks and issues.
Provide ongoing application and system support, including issue investigation and cross-team coordination.
Spend approximately 10-15% of time coding to maintain familiarity with the technology stack.
Supervise and mentor technical team members, including 1:1s, performance evaluations, and hiring.
Partner with Product Managers, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to ensure successful delivery.
Work within an Agile software development environment.
Project Communication (20%)
Communicate project status, risks, and progress to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure clear, consistent delivery updates.
Required Qualifications
7+ years of hands-on Java software development experience.
Experience leading technical projects or development teams.
Strong understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or similar).
Solid experience managing projects across the full software development lifecycle.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Qualifications
Prior software development management or team lead experience.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments.
PMP certification or willingness to obtain after hire.
Agile certification (PMI, Scrum Alliance, or similar).
Experience with multi-tier architectures, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Experience working with offshore or distributed development teams.
Additional Information
Role is primarily onsite in an office environment.
Position involves extended periods of computer-based work.
Occasional workload spikes may occur around key deadlines.
