Engineering Technician I

Location: Greensboro, NC
Duration: 6-Month Contract (Potential for Extension and/or Conversion)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours/Week
Work Environment: Onsite

Overview

We are seeking an Engineering Technician I to join a fast-paced engineering team supporting electric utility distribution projects. This position combines field and office responsibilities, including inspections, engineering design support, data collection, and construction support activities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in utility or power environments and be comfortable working both in the field and in an office setting. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow their engineering and utility industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field inspections and collect data for utility distribution projects
  • Conduct engineering design work and calculations
  • Coordinate with permitting agencies, right-of-way specialists, system owners, field personnel, forestry teams, and third-party stakeholders
  • Provide engineering support during construction activities
  • Perform post-construction reviews to ensure engineering and construction standards are met
  • Conduct root cause analysis of outages and recommend mitigation solutions
  • Review project scopes and assess work requirements
  • Travel to project sites as needed and develop electrical design work packages based on field data collected
  • Ensure quality and timely completion of engineering deliverables

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License
  • Willingness to perform both field and office work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors as required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Preferred:

  • Associate’s Degree in an Engineering discipline or related field
  • Utility or power industry experience
  • Utility distribution design experience
  • Experience with field data collection
