Human Resources Generalist
Location: Skid Row, Downtown Los Angeles, CA
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
A well-established nonprofit organization serving the Skid Row community is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support daily HR operations and employee programs. This role will assist with onboarding, recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, HR compliance, and HRIS management. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of human resources experience, strong knowledge of California employment laws, and thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage onboarding and offboarding processes, including new hire orientations and employee documentation.
- Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files, and HRIS data.
- Support recruitment efforts by posting jobs, coordinating interviews, and communicating with candidates.
- Assist with benefits administration, leave tracking, and employee inquiries.
- Process employee status changes, terminations, and other HR transactions.
- Support payroll by ensuring employee data and documentation are accurate and up to date.
- Assist with employee relations matters and provide guidance on HR policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Prepare reports, employment verifications, and other HR-related correspondence.
- Participate in HR projects, training initiatives, and process improvements.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
- Strong knowledge of onboarding, recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance.
- Experience with HRIS systems such as Paycom, ADP, Paylocity, UKG, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of California labor laws and HR best practices.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous nonprofit or social services experience is highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
