Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day financial operations of the organization, including accounts payable, collections, budgeting, cash management, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, annual budgets, and other financial reports for leadership and governing committees.
- Monitor bank accounts, maintain internal controls, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Approve invoices, payments, and disbursements while partnering with accounting staff on transaction processing.
- Assist with payroll administration and support year-end reporting requirements.
- Supervise and mentor a Finance Associate, delegating tasks and providing ongoing guidance and support.
- Lead administrative and operational functions, including policy management, vendor relationships, contracts, and office operations.
- Serve as a key liaison between leadership, committees, and staff regarding financial and operational matters.
- Oversee business systems, databases, and technology vendors to ensure efficient operations.
- Coordinate organizational communications, mailings, and administrative projects as needed.
- Attend staff meetings, leadership meetings, and occasional evening board or trustee meetings.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- 5+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or business operations experience.
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, budgeting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting principles.
- Experience overseeing financial operations in a small to mid-sized organization.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same.
- Comfortable supervising and delegating work to at least one direct report.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including basic to intermediate Excel skills.
- Willingness to attend occasional evening meetings, including monthly board/trustee meetings.
- Experience with nonprofit, membership-based, faith-based, or community organizations is a plus.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
- Prior experience with accounting, membership, or ERP software is a plus.
