Overview
We are seeking a Senior Project Accountant to support project‑based accounting activities within a well established professional services organization. This role will be responsible for overseeing the financial performance of projects from setup through close‑out, ensuring accurate cost tracking, billing, and reporting. The ideal candidate has strong project accounting experience, is comfortable partnering with operations and project managers, and has hands‑on experience with Deltek (or similar project‑based ERP systems).
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full lifecycle of project accounting, including project setup, cost tracking, billing, and close‑out
- Monitor and analyze project costs, budgets, and profitability, identifying variances and trends
- Prepare and process client billings, including time & materials, fixed fee, and/or cost‑plus arrangements
- Maintain and reconcile WIP, deferred revenue, and unbilled receivables
- Partner closely with project managers, operations, and property teams to ensure financial accuracy and alignment
- Support month‑end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and project‑related reporting
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, contract terms, and applicable accounting standards
- Assist with project audits, documentation, and reporting as needed
- Utilize Deltek (or similar project‑based ERP) to maintain accurate project data and financial reporting
- Contribute to process improvements and efficiencies within project accounting and billing workflows
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 2+ years of project accounting experience, ideally within environmental services, engineering, construction, or property management
- Hands‑on experience with Deltek (Vision, Costpoint, Vantagepoint) strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of project accounting concepts, including WIP, revenue recognition, and cost controls
- Experience working in a project‑driven, multi‑stakeholder environment
- Ability to communicate effectively with both finance and non‑finance partners
- Detail‑oriented, organized, and comfortable managing multiple projects simultaneously
