POSITION OVERVIEW
A well-established, privately held organization is seeking an experienced Chief Financial Officer to lead its finance function through its next stage of development.
This executive will serve as a close partner to the CEO and leadership team, with responsibility for the company’s financial strategy, accounting and reporting, planning, operational finance, and development of the finance organization. The CFO will help strengthen the company’s financial infrastructure while providing leadership with greater visibility into business performance and opportunities for continued growth.
The successful candidate will combine strong financial and accounting fundamentals with a practical, operational approach. Experience in businesses with broad product portfolios, inventory, manufacturing or distribution operations, and meaningful product-cost complexity will be particularly relevant.
This position requires an executive who is comfortable operating at both the strategic and hands-on levels, capable of communicating with senior stakeholders while remaining close to the financial and operational details of the business.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Executive & Financial Leadership
- Partner with the CEO and executive leadership team on financial strategy, business planning, resource allocation, and organizational priorities.
- Provide timely financial analysis and actionable insight regarding company performance, opportunities, and risks.
- Translate financial results and operating data into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
- Support the company’s long-term strategic objectives and future corporate initiatives.
Accounting, Controls & Financial Reporting
- Provide leadership across accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, and internal controls.
- Maintain high standards for financial accuracy, discipline, compliance, and accountability.
- Continuously improve monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting processes.
- Enhance the quality and usefulness of management reporting across the organization.
- Ensure the finance function and underlying processes can appropriately support a growing and increasingly complex business.
Operational & Commercial Finance
- Develop meaningful financial insight into product, customer, channel, and business-unit performance.
- Partner with operational leaders to improve profitability, working capital management, cost visibility, and resource utilization.
- Oversee financial analysis associated with inventory, product costing, pricing, and margins.
- Strengthen forecasting, financial modeling, KPI reporting, and other decision-support capabilities.
- Help leadership identify opportunities to improve operating performance while supporting sustainable revenue growth.
Finance Organization Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor the company’s finance and accounting organization.
- Assess organizational structure, capabilities, systems, and processes as the company’s needs evolve.
- Develop talent and create appropriate levels of accountability throughout the finance function.
- Promote effective partnership between finance and the company’s commercial and operational teams.
- Build processes that allow the finance organization to scale effectively with the business.
Corporate Development & Strategic Initiatives
- Provide financial leadership for acquisitions, investments, partnerships, or other strategic initiatives as appropriate.
- Participate in financial evaluation, due diligence, transaction planning, and integration activities.
- Help ensure financial systems, controls, reporting, documentation, and business processes are prepared to support future corporate initiatives.
- Work with executive leadership and external advisors on significant financial and strategic matters.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
The successful candidate will ideally offer:
- Significant experience as a CFO or senior financial executive within a product-oriented organization.
- Experience in manufacturing, distribution, healthcare products, specialized technology, industrial products, scientific products, or another operationally complex environment.
- Demonstrated understanding of businesses involving inventory, substantial product breadth, product costing, and margin management.
- Strong command of accounting, financial reporting, controls, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience working within a professionally sponsored, investor-backed, or similarly sophisticated ownership environment.
- Previous involvement with acquisitions, integrations, recapitalizations, ownership transitions, or other significant corporate transactions.
- A track record of developing finance teams, improving financial processes, and introducing greater visibility and accountability into an organization.
- Ability to work effectively across finance, operations, sales, supply chain, and executive leadership.
- Strong communication, judgment, and executive-level presentation capabilities.
- A hands-on leadership style and willingness to work directly with financial details when necessary.
- CPA, public accounting, or comparable technical accounting experience is preferred.
LEADERSHIP CHARACTERISTICS
The organization is seeking a finance executive who is:
- Strategic while remaining operationally engaged.
- Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial and evolving environment.
- Analytical and financially rigorous without becoming overly process-driven.
- Able to challenge assumptions constructively and provide an independent financial perspective.
- Effective at developing teams and raising the capabilities of the finance organization.
- Comfortable communicating with executives, investors, advisors, and operating leaders.
- Capable of balancing immediate business requirements with longer-term organizational development.
- Highly professional, discreet, and accustomed to handling sensitive information.
