Position Overview
The Loan Analyst supports small business lending initiatives by performing financial analysis, underwriting loan applications, and monitoring loan performance. This role works closely with internal leadership and external stakeholders to assess borrower financial health, support lending decisions, and contribute to the overall success of business finance programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite small business loan applications and evaluate borrower financials
- Analyze financial statements, tax returns, and supporting documentation for loan eligibility
- Present loan requests to internal committees for review and approval
- Monitor loan performance and track financial trends of borrowers post-funding
- Conduct variance analysis and report findings to management
- Support loan lifecycle processes from booking through servicing
- Perform bank reconciliations and assist with financial tracking
- Draft loan closing documents, payoff statements, and periodic balance statements
- Prepare board materials and meeting minutes as needed
- Assist with debt recovery documentation and servicing activities
- Maintain relationships with borrowers and respond to loan-related inquiries
- Participate in discovery calls with loan applicants and stakeholders
- Support special projects, new programs, and departmental initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, or lending
- Strong Excel skills, including financial modeling capabilities
- Experience reviewing financial statements and performing data analysis
- Familiarity with financial reporting tools and systems
- Effective communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant experience in lending, banking, or financial analysis
- Experience in public finance, government, or economic development environments
- Advanced degree (MBA, Master’s in Finance/Economics, etc.)
- Professional certifications (CFA, CPA, CFM, or similar)
- Experience with grant funding, public-private partnerships, or loan programs
